NOTICE TO NATIONALS AND FRIENDS OF SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS

The Embassy and Permanent Mission of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Washington D.C. advises nationals and friends of the Federation that the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis has announced that the late Hugh C. Heyliger, former Deputy Prime Minister, will be accorded an Official Funeral in recognition of his distinguished service to the Federation.

Mr. Heyliger served Saint Kitts and Nevis in several senior public offices, including that of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Education, Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and Development, Director of the Government Planning Unit, and Leader of the Opposition. He also contributed to national development through the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and as a Lay Pastor in the Methodist Church.

A three-day period of national mourning has been declared from Tuesday, July 7, through Thursday, July 9, 2026, during which flags on government buildings and official residences will be flown at half-mast.

The Official Funeral will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Wesley Methodist Church, Seaton Street, Basseterre. Lying-in-State will be held at Government Headquarters from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by public viewing and tributes at 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service commencing at 2:00 p.m. An Official Condolence Book will also be available for members of the public to sign.
